Trains are making a comeback!  They are a more energy efficient way to travel than planes, cost less and many communities have train museums that would make a wonderful trip for our students.

Train Stations:  Trains have fascinated people from the time they first appeared.  Trains are huge, gigantic machines that glide across the country landscape, loud engines rumbling past cities and towns bringing their cargo to every corner of the country.  They are a more energy efficient way to travel than planes, and cost less.  Many communities have train museums that offer a wonderful visit to see how these giants changed over the years and who they contribute to our everyday lives.  This is what the Fodor Guide had to say:  Airplanes are a wondrous testament to the ingenuity of humans. These truly impressive machines are incredible feats of technology and provide the means to access far-flung destinations in a matter of hours. But human innovation has its limits, and these days air travel has become more expensive, less comfortable, and fraught with never-ending hassles.

Union Station, Denver, CO

Don’t just look at the trains, but a tour of the station can be of interest to older students.  They can learn what goes on with workman and find out how to navigate a train station for when they are traveling.

Pictured below is the Train Museum in Danbury, CT, you can see models of what trains looked like over the years, walk through a luxury compartment that was for people to travel in style with all the comforts of home, and take a short ride on a train from the 1880s.

The good news is that the journey from one place to another doesn’t have to send you flying off the handle. As air travel loses its luster, trains have started roaring back into fashion. With comprehensive rail networks in operation all over the world and new upgrades on classic routes, travelers have plenty of reasons to steer clear of the sky and work that railroad instead.

Yoga, for Mind and Body

Yoga is essentially a spiritual discipline based on an extremely subtle science, which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body. It is an art and science of healthy living. The word ‘Yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit root ‘Yuj’, meaning ‘to join’ or ‘to yoke’ or ‘to unite’. As per Yogic scriptures the practice of Yoga leads to the union of individual consciousness with that of the Universal Consciousness, indicating a perfect harmony between the mind and body, Man & Nature. One who experiences this oneness of existence is said to be in yoga, and is termed as a yogi, having attained to a state of freedom referred to as mukti, nirvana or moksha.

There are many yoga classes offered all over the country.  Make arrangements with a teacher to offer classes to groups of students as a free trial.  This is a great form of advertising for the teacher and an opportunity to contribute to the local community.  Many teachers will come to the school or house of worship to conduct a class.
